About This Watch

Offered here is a truly special and increasingly rare early Tissot Militar, dating to approximately 1943 to 1945, with a highly desirable black dial and center seconds configuration. This example stands out not only for its originality, but for how infrequently this layout appears on the market. After extensive searching, I have not found another black-dial sweep-seconds Tissot Militar offered for sale online anywhere.

What makes the Militar line compelling is that it sits at the intersection of Tissot's civilian watchmaking quality and the practical design language that defined the WWII era. These watches were built as functional instruments first: clear Arabic numerals, strong contrast, luminous handset and numerals, and a large crown for easy handling. At the same time, the watch still carries the elegance and restraint that make 1940s Tissot pieces so wearable today. It has real presence on the wrist without feeling oversized or exaggerated.

This particular watch is especially attractive because it appears to be an honest example, with matching Tissot signatures across the key components: dial, movement, and caseback. The caseback interior is correctly signed Chs. Tissot and Fils and marked Fond Acier Inoxydable, and the watch retains the period construction details collectors want to see. The movement is Tissot-signed and serialed, and the overall presentation is consistent with a proper vintage piece rather than a rebuilt parts watch.

The black dial has the matte finish seen on period service watches, with rich character and fine speckled patina across the surface that gives it a soft granular texture in the light. The warm aged Arabic numerals and balanced outer minute track give the watch a purposeful, instrument-like feel, while the handset follows the same style language associated with WWII-era service watches. The lume remains present and has aged naturally, adding to the watch's overall appeal.

There is also an important market point here: the Militar line continued for many years after WWII, but early Tissot Militar watches from right around WWII rarely come up for sale. Many surviving pieces are refinished or relumed.

Case condition is consistent with age and use, with vintage wear visible in the photos.

Terms: Please review all photos carefully as they are a part of the listing. This is a vintage timepiece. Accuracy, power reserve, and water resistance are not guaranteed. Vintage watches may require periodic service. Performance can vary with wear, temperature, and position.

I am happy to service any unserviced watch listed on the site — please inquire about service charges when purchasing.
