Paul Breguette Automatic (c. 1947) - Warm Patina Dial - Gold Plated Movement - Vintage Watch

A striking survivor from the dawn of postwar Swiss automatic watchmaking, this 1947 Paul Breguette houses one of the earliest bidirectional rotor systems, based on the celebrated Felsa Bidynator caliber, a movement that set the standard for automatic winding through the late 1940s and into the 1950s.

The dial has developed a beautiful amber tropical patina that glows warmly under light, its entire surface covered in a fine waffle guilloché that gives the aging extraordinary texture and depth. Applied Arabic numerals at the quarters and baton indices at the remaining positions carry their original lume, while the hands have darkened independently over the decades, creating a contrast against the golden surface that reads beautifully from any angle.

Inside beats a gilt-finished movement signed PAUL BREGUETTE WATCH CO, caliber 2690, seventeen jewels, unadjusted Swiss. The gilt plates are an uncommon touch for this era and a mark of higher production quality, catching light in a way that plain nickel finished movements simply do not. The movement winds smoothly and runs well.

The stainless steel case is round with clean architectural proportions, showing light honest wear with no evidence of polishing, and strong edges throughout.
