Buy in Person — Los AngelesAbout This Watch
The cocktail watch was at its height in the 1960s, small and gold and finely finished, made for the evening as much jewelry as timepiece. Nivada was sold at fine jewelers from London to New York alongside pieces from Longines and Cartier.
The square case is carved into a raised grid of blocks and bars, a pattern that breaks the light into a dozen reflections when the wrist turns. Set into the center, under a domed crystal, is a round champagne dial with applied baton markers and slim dark hands, signed Nivada below the twelve.
Surprisingly, this small movement carries the kind of finish luxury watch houses charge thousands of dollars for. It has a refined hammered granular frosting across the bridges. The caliber is manual-wind, seventeen jewels, signed Nivada and Swiss.
The case sets a gold-plated front on a stainless steel back, stamped inside with the Nivada name, the French for stainless steel, and the reference 4615, with the case number 10295 engraved on the back itself. The crown is gold and carries the Nivada N in a small shield. It comes on an 18mm black lizard grain strap. The gold shows the faint marks of years on a wrist, and the watch runs.
