About This Watch

Offered here is a genuinely special LeCoultre ladies wristwatch produced in 1938. This is high Swiss watchmaking in miniature, built by a house collectors rank among the most prestigious, alongside names like Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Even at this scale, LeCoultre approached the work with real craftsmanship and precision, producing small wristwatches that were every bit as well made as their larger pieces. In the late 1930s, LeCoultre's U.S. market watches captured a unique intersection of fine Swiss mechanics and the height of American jewelry design, the kind of watch meant to be appreciated up close, not noticed from across the room. It carries the mood of late 1930s nightlife, cocktail lounges and discreet glamour, where elegance was a quiet signal rather than a show.

The dial is a clean, bright cream tone with crisp black, uniquely shaped Arabic numerals. It is understated in the best way and perfectly matched to the case, letting the overall design feel elegant rather than ornate. The arched, faceted bezel gives the watch real presence for its size and catches light in a way that feels more like fine jewelry than a simple round case. The hands are gold tone and sit beautifully against the patinated dial, with a warmth that ties into the case and bracelet.

The watch is triple signed, stamped on the bridge, the dial, and the case. Inside is a LeCoultre manual-wind movement, Caliber 490BW, marked seventeen jewels. It is a compact, high quality movement finished with the refined perlage and care you would expect from LeCoultre, with clean bridge architecture and sharp engraving. The movement winds, sets, and runs as it should.

The case is stamped 10K gold filled and marked Cased and Timed in U.S.A. by LeCoultre, a detail collectors love because it speaks directly to how these were sold and worn in the American market. Wear is minimal but consistent with age and is visible in the photographs.

The watch is fitted with its original bracelet signed Kreisler. Kreisler was among the top American bracelet makers of the era, and period-correct signed examples are increasingly valuable and hard to find intact. It completes the watch as it would have been worn and is a meaningful part of what makes this example special.

This is not a novelty ladies watch. It is a top tier name, a correct period piece, and a complete presentation that reflects late 1930s taste for refined, wearable luxury with real watchmaking inside.

Terms: Please review all photos carefully as they are a part of the listing. This is a vintage timepiece. Accuracy, power reserve, and water resistance are not guaranteed. Vintage watches may require periodic service. Performance can vary with wear, temperature, and position.
