Buy in Person — Los AngelesAbout This Watch
This Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox was part of a limited run commissioned by Henry Ford II as an award for Ford's top-performing sales managers in 1955. Each example was engraved with the Ford signature and the recipient's award inscription. These watches were never sold to the public and were exclusive corporate awards presented personally to Ford's top national sales managers. Approximately 1,000 are believed to have been produced, and very few remain in complete working condition today.
A historically significant watch not only for Jaeger-LeCoultre, but in the broader story of automotive history, from the era when the Thunderbird, Fairlane, and Crown Victoria symbolized postwar American innovation and style. It was the dawn of America's golden automotive era, when Ford was redefining performance and luxury on the open road.
The dial immediately stands out, crowned by the Ford crest at twelve o'clock, positioned above the alarm aperture with LeCoultre's signature blue triangle and red E, standing for Éveil, the French word for alarm. The combination of the Ford insignia and LeCoultre branding makes this one of the most distinctive Memovox models produced during the 1950s. The dial shows attractive, even patina with clean applied gold markers and dauphine hands that retain their sharp edges and warmth.
Powered by LeCoultre's in-house Calibre 814, the second generation of JLC's wrist alarm movement introduced in 1953, this watch represents one of the finest expressions of mechanical alarm watchmaking ever produced. The alarm produces a bright, resonant buzz often described as a cricket-like ring, a hallmark of these mechanical alarms. The alarm function is working perfectly and the watch is running and keeping accurate time.
The case, crafted in 10K gold fill, appears unpolished and in honest condition with strong lines and light, even wear. The caseback engraving remains crisp and legible, reading: For Championship Sales Management Performance November-December 1955 Henry Ford II.
