Bulova Black Hawk or Surgeon - Rare Gloss Black Gilt Circle Dial - Gold Filled - Circa 1951

Black-dial gold Bulovas are uncommon to begin with, but this one sits in a narrower category still. The dial is deep gloss black centered by a dramatic circular gilt seconds ring, the kind of design flourish that feels both elegant and quietly experimental in the best mid-century way. Applied numerals, syringe-style hands, and a neat minute track complete a composition that reads as confident rather than decorative. Bulova Surgeons are almost always found on white dials, and no Black Hawk with an all-black dial and a gold seconds ring like this has surfaced in the research behind this listing. Whichever reference this is, it is genuinely rare and the dial configuration appears to be unique.

The gold-filled square case frames it cleanly, sharp with normal wear for a watch of this age. The dial shows attractive even aging over the original gloss with intact gilt printing and the distinctive inner seconds ring. There is a scuff mark at the bottom left of the dial, visible in the photographs. The hands present well with light wear. The stainless caseback shows typical surface marks. Inside is Bulova's 17-jewel Caliber 10BUC, dating the watch to 1951. It winds, sets, and runs. Fitted on a new black leather strap.
