Buy in Person — Los AngelesAbout This Watch
The Bulova Banker line was introduced as an elegant yet approachable dress watch during the early 1940s, designed for the professional of the era. This particular example, dating to 1942, carries the refined Art Deco styling that defined the series, with its elongated rectangular case smartly curved to follow the wrist, stepped sides, and understated dial layout.
The dial has aged gracefully, its white surface developing a warm uneven patina that gives it a character a new dial could never replicate. Bold Arabic numerals, gold baton hands, a crisp outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds register at six o'clock with a guilloché center complete the composition. Powering the watch is Bulova's 17-jewel manual-wind movement signed BULOVA WATCH CO. / U.S.A., a reliable mid-century American caliber. The case is 10K rolled gold plate throughout, measuring 41mm lug to lug by 25.5mm wide, a versatile size that sits well on the wrist. The caseback is stamped BULOVA / FIFTH AVE / NEW YORK, serial 7375393.
The Banker was marketed under the prestigious Fifth Avenue, New York signature, aimed squarely at the young American professional of the wartime era. Period advertising described the case as "smartly curved to fit the wrist," and the design holds up exactly as described eighty years later.
